LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has registered around 1.5 million residents of Quezon province to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) and distributed a total of 602,371 Philippine Identification (PhilID) cards or the printed version of the PhilID as well as its digital version called "ePhilID".

"We have distributed 255,283 ePhilIDs and 347,088 PhilID cards provincewide," said Provincial Statistics Officer Airene Pucyutan in an interview on Wednesday.

She said various government agencies including the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) have issued directives and memorandums about the validity and acceptability of the PhilID in all transactions in their respective agencies.

Pucyutan said any institution or establishment that would refuse to honor the physical or digitally printed PhilID shall be penalized in accordance with Republic Act 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act.

To avoid the proliferation of fake ePhilIDs which may be printed on a sheet of paper, Pucyutan advised the public to verify its validity through the PhilSys Check link provided by the PSA.

She assured that the printed ePhilID has the same functionality and validity as the physical PhilID.

"Currently, our office conducts mobile registrations at the barangays, institutions, establishments, terminals and schools to increase PhilSys registration and distribution of printed ePhilID," Pucyutan said.

Quezon province has a population of more than 2.4 million as of 2022. (PNA)
