ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar said that Pakistan looks forward to enhancing its cooperation with China and other members of the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The prime minister said Pakistan supports the GDI and commended the milestones achieved in its implementation, stressing that the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor are vital vehicles for achieving the SDGs. (Pakistan-China-GDI)

MANILA -- Economic growth of developing economies in Asia and the Pacific is projected to remain solid, although risks to the outlook are rising, according to an Asian Development Bank (ADB) report.

The Asian Development Outlook September 2023 forecasts the region's developing economies to grow 4.7 percent this year, a slight downward revision from a previous projection of 4.8 percent. The growth forecast for next year is maintained at 4.8 percent. (ADB-Asia Pacific-Growth Forecast)

VIENTIANE -- The Lao Ministry of Health has confirmed the first case of monkeypox in the country, urging health officials nationwide to stay on the alert for more cases of the virus.

A man, who has been found contracted monkeypox after traveling from a neighboring country, is currently under observation at a hospital in Lao capital Vientiane, according to a notice issued by the Lao Ministry of Health on Tuesday. The health ministry said more cases could be detected in Laos because of the high number of people traveling to other countries, including those where cases of the virus have been reported. COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka has become the 69th state party to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), as the country's Foreign Minister Ali Sabry deposited the instrument of accession on Sept. 19, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

"Sri Lanka's ratification of the TPNW reaffirms its long-standing commitment toward nuclear disarmament in favor of international peace and security. In this context, Sri Lanka also ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) on July 25, 2023," the ministry said. (Sri Lanka-Nuclear-Treaty)
