VIENTIANE -- Laos is anticipating the arrival of 400,000 to 800,000 foreign visitors in November and December, bringing the total number of foreign visitors in 2023 to between 2.9 million and 3.3 million.

With the last three months of the year being the high season, an influx of tourists is anticipated, which will push the total for the year well above the figure of 1.68 million visitors to Laos last year, the Lao national TV on Friday quoted Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Suanesavanh Vignaket as saying. MANILA -- A 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the southern Philippines on Friday afternoon killed at least one, the Philippines' Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on Friday evening.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) Chief Executive Eddie Yue said on Friday that despite volatility in global financial markets, Hong Kong's financial system remains sound, with smooth and orderly transactions in its foreign exchange and interbank markets.

Yue said at a meeting of the Panel on Financial Affairs of the Legislative Council of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region that the U.S. interest rate has remained high recently, and some funds have flowed out from bond funds in Asia, which has put pressure on the exchange rate in Asia. MANILA -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said on Friday that it has approved 250 million U.S. dollars in loans to help deliver reliable electricity in Pakistan.
