Philippine external trade rises by 9.1 pct in January

MANILA, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines' total external trade in goods rose by 9.1 percent year-on-year to 17.82 billion U.S. dollars in January, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Friday.

Of the total external trade in January, 64.3 percent were imported goods, while the remaining 35.7 percent were exported goods.

The PSA said trade deficit in the month stood at 5.09 billion dollars, with an increase of 16.9 percent year-on-year.

In January, China was the Philippines' largest supplier of imported goods, while the United States contributed the highest export value with 17.7 percent of the total exports.
