Philippine Davao City opposes foreign military facilities

MANILA, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The Davao City Government in the southern Philippines has strongly opposed any proposal to establish foreign military facilities within its jurisdiction, citing concerns about the lack of direct benefits to residents, according to local media reports on Wednesday.

In an official statement on Tuesday, Davao City Government officials said they would not welcome such developments.

The statement comes amid reports that the United States plans to build a fuel storage depot in the Davao region by 2028.

According to local media reports, the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency has issued a solicitation to contractors for a proposed fuel facility in Mindanao, specifically near Davao City.
