Vietnam sees rise in rice export volume, drop in value in first 5 months

HANOI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's rice exports increased in volume but declined in value in the first five months of 2025, Vietnam News Agency reported Monday, citing the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

The country exported approximately 4.5 million tons of rice during the cited period, up 12.2 percent year-on-year, generating an estimated 2.34 billion U.S. dollars in revenue.

However, the export value fell by 8.9 percent due to a significant drop in average export prices, which declined to about 0.516 U.S. dollars per kg, down 18.7 percent from the same period last year.

The Philippines remained Vietnam's largest rice importer from January to May, accounting for 41.4 percent of total shipments.
