Philippine town suspends classes, work due to bomb threat

MANILA, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Philippine local authorities on Wednesday suspended classes and work in a town in Laguna province, south of Manila, due to an alleged bomb threat circulating on social media.

In a Facebook post, Santa Cruz Mayor Edgar San Luis said a bomb threat circulated online on Wednesday morning, prompting the local government to temporarily halt classes at all levels in private and public schools and office work to ensure safety.

San Luis said that local authorities in Santa Cruz have been investigating the threat, urging residents to be vigilant.

"I remind those spreading this threat that we have laws that penalize those spreading fear and disinformation," said the mayor.
